As for the RETURN box, take some time to return items to the library, friends, or church. Put the RETURN box in the trunk or by the front door until it's empty again. Keep this box in the garage so you'll see it when you leave the house and grab that item on the way out. It's also a great place for library books, borrowed clothes, CDs and DVDs, or gifts that need to be delivered.

The File box is for keepsakes and sentimental items. Anything that can be scanned into a computer file should be. After scanning, either throw it away or place it in a scrapbook. Bulky items can be stored in file boxes or bins from an office supply store, and either stored in long term storage, or in a nearby closet, depending on how often you need to access them.

Download free software that allows you to store CDs and DVDs on you computer, then either store the actual cases out of the way, or consider selling or trading them at a used media store. Your virtual copies take up less room and are always at your fingertips. Since media cases take up a lot of room, this is one of the most important decluttering considerations.

You should only be left with bulky keepsake items that won't fit into a book or box and can't be scanned. Put these in stackable boxes that you can label and stick in a now empty closet. With all the piles gone and your space organized, it's easy to keep the clutter from piling up again, so long as you keep up with it and use the many tips found on the review site.
